The Wanaque First Aid Squad hosts a youth squad as a feeder group into the adult squad. The Youth Squad accepts members from 16 to 18. These members must obtain and maintain either Basic First Aid and CPR or New Jersey Certified EMT in order to ride. A Youth Squad member has most of the same rights as an Adult member, with a few exceptions: - Hours of Duty are limited on school nights. - Youth Members are not permitted to answer all calls. - Youth Members are allowed one collective vote at business meetings.
Most Youth Squad members have moved on to become Adult Members. Their time in the Youth Squad allows for additional training, education and the development of the many skills needed in Emergency Medical Services. Along with these skills comes the ability to deal with stressful situations and interact with a community. These are traits that many higher education institutions look for in a student. Some of our Youth Squad Members have moved on to become Nurses, College Students and even attend West Point Military Academy. The traits learned in the Youth Squad also make for a great resume builder.
If you are interested in joining the WFAS Youth Squad simply fill out an online application or visit the squad building.
